Designer Kate Lester Shares Her West Coast Christmas Style
Los Angeles-based designer Kate Lester has given us a sneak peek of her laid-back holiday style. When decorating her home for the holidays, she takes cues from nature with hints of fresh greenery and organic accents. “I like the aesthetics to feel natural rather than fancy or formal,” say Kate. From a cozy and casual dining nook to an intimate fireside tree, this California home is ready for the season.

A boho-inspired entryway gets a holiday update with natural wreaths topped with ornaments.
In this corner, a beautifully adorned tree is surrounded by gifts. A black and white mantel is strewn with a garland made from fresh eucalyptus, evergreens, and a subtle beaded tassel for added texture.
Instead of colorful gift wrap, Kate opts for neutral kraft paper that’s tied up with a variety of ribbons, jute twines, and whimsical gift tags.
A serene dining nook is set for an intimate holiday gathering.
A blue and white nautical table runner and napkins pair perfectly with the eucalyptus garland and tree-shaped ornaments. “Since I live on the coast, I always gravitate to blues and greens if I’m adding in a color. They go great with the existing decor of my house and don’t compete too much with the natural coloring of a Christmas Tree,” says Kate.
Beaded rope tassels create a boho feel, and are a great napkin holder idea for informal dining.
Eucalyptus accents are clearly the winning motif in Kate’s West Coast holiday home, as seen in this kitchen wreath which hangs from the kitchen vent hood.
“I love a neutral themed tree and instead play with the textures of the ornaments and decorations. Add in felt pieces, or wooden ones, but keep the overall color scheme natural and organic,” says Kate.
