Who Bought The Brady Bunch House For $3.2M?
When the Brady House initially came up for sale in 2018, many (including NSYNC ‘s Lance Bass, who bid $3.5M USD at the time) felt a nostalgic pull. The winner was HGTV, and in 2019 the network aired A Very Brady Renovation, which detailed how the 5,140-square-foot ranch house was transformed into a faithful reproduction of what was depicted on the show.
Who is new the owner of the recognizable five bedroom, five bathroom estate? According to The Wall Street Journal, it’s Tina Trahan, a fan of the sitcom. “It’s almost like a life-size dollhouse,” Tina has said, adding she plans to use the home for fundraisers and charity events. “No one is going in there to make pork chops and applesauce in that kitchen. Anything you might do to make the house livable would take away from what I consider artwork.”
HGTV expanded the home’s original footprint, adding a full second storey, excavating a lower level, and installing an addition, adding 2,000 more square feet. According to the real estate listing, it’s the second most photographed home in the U.S., after the White House.
Canadian twins Jonathan and Drew Scott of Property Brothers fame worked on restoring the exterior of the home, foyer, and living room. All six actors who portrayed the Brady children took part in the renovation.
Thrift shops were scoured to match the horse statue and vase. After the original horse was located in the Paramount archives was found to be missing a hoof, a new one was created using 3D technology.
The chairs in the Brady living room had to be custom made and upholstered since the floral pattern is no longer available. Maureen McCormick (Marcia) worked with designers to recreate the design and have it custom printed.
In the classic orange and avocado ’70s kitchen, designer Leanne Ford sourced out-of-date furnishings and functioning appliances.
In the communal girls’ room, Susan Olsen (Cindy) helped color match and recreate the custom wallpaper.
In the boys’ room, the panelling, artwork and race car on the desk are all a perfect match.
The swing set is the original (with a fresh coat of paint), from the Paramount Studio’s archives. Susan Olsen (Cindy) and Mike Lookinland (Bobby) worked on remaking Tiger’s dog house, including the privacy curtain.
